Spencer Rattler rates LaNorris Sellers' first career touchdown pass

With South Carolina up 20 against Furman on Saturday night, Spencer Rattler’s work was finished. Late in the third quarter, he stood on the sidelines and watched as true freshman LaNorris Sellers took his first snaps as a Gamecock.
Sellers’ first play was a run, then on play two he handed the ball off to running back Mario Anderson. His first career pass came next, a 10-yard completion to Eddie Lewis. After a USC penalty, Carolina faced 2nd and 16 from midfield.

Then came a play that has South Carolina fans everywhere buzzing about Sellers’ potential. He took the snap, waited a couple seconds, moved to his right, then uncorked a ball down the field that seemed to hang in the air forever.
It landed perfectly in the hands of true freshman Tyshawn Russell, who was striding toward the back of the end zone.
During an appearance on GC Live on Monday, USC starting quarterback Spencer Rattler weighed in on the throw.
“Well, it was a 10 out of 10. I mean, it was a bomb,” he said. “60, 65-yard throw.”
Rattler’s on-field reaction was highlighted in a video posted to Gamecock Football’s social media channels after the game.

“That was actually like his third progression,” said Rattler on GC Live. “He worked left to right, had some time, and put it down there to Tyshawn (Russell) to go make a play.”

“My thought was to not force anything and just play the play out,” LaNorris Sellers said after the game. “And then I looked to the left and I didn’t like – well, first of all, I wasn’t supposed to do that – I was supposed to stick to one side and that’s it. But I felt like I had time, so I just came back to the touchdown.”
While South Carolina fans are enjoying a final year with Rattler – who’s been lights out in the first two games of the 2023 season – they’re likewise excited about the future with Sellers, who went 4-4 with two touchdowns in his first game in Columbia.
“Two young guys made a good play,” said Rattler. “That was a great throw. I was hyped for him. We know he’s got a big arm, confident player.
