Staff Picks: South Carolina at Ole Miss, other Week 10 matchups

November is nearly here, which means the final month of the regular season will begin this weekend. For South Carolina, a team that always plays well in November, will start out on the road at No. 7 Ole Miss.
Kickoff on Saturday is at 7 p.m. on ESPN from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Here’s how the GamecockCentral and 107.5 The Game staff sees this game going, plus a few predictions on other key matchups this weekend.
George Bagwell: I’ve been fooled for the last time. At least until next week. But a road night game in the SEC is always going to be difficult. It’s even more difficult when the opponent is ranked seventh nationally and South Carolina has lost five of their last six games. We’ll see some LaNorris magic, no doubt, but this is going to be tough. Ole Miss 30, South Carolina 20.
Elijah Campbell: I have a better feeling about this game than I did about Alabama. The Ole Miss offense is explosive but their defense is more getable. I think Carolina gets their season high in offensive points but for this game, it won’t be enough. Unfortunately for the Gamecocks, Ole Miss is a team where you can play great D and still surrender 28+ points. Ole Miss 31, South Carolina 24.
The Insiders Forum: Discuss South Carolina football!
Chris Clark: Lane Kiffin’s offense presents a lot of problems, and this is another road game for the Gamecocks in the SEC. USC will have to come away with points to compete here. I think South Carolina will compete, but it won’t be quite enough. Ole Miss 34, South Carolina 24.
Terry Ford: I think the Gamecocks hang around for three quarters but the lack of offense will again bite them. To get the road W USC will need a defensive and/or special teams score. The Gamecocks can’t get behind by multiple scores early and they NEED to stay aggressive in all three phases. And oh yeah….LOTS OF #16 ON OFFENSE!!!! Ole Miss: 30, South Carolina: 20.
Griffin Goodwyn: South Carolina came agonizingly close to securing a massive upset win over Alabama last Saturday. Now, the Gamecocks face an even stiffer challenge in Ole Miss — not because it is better on paper than the Crimson Tide, but because it is a CFP-caliber team with home-field advantage. Since the start of the 2023 season, the Rebels are 18-1 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford; all signs are pointing to that record improving to 19-1 this weekend. Ole Miss 34, South Carolina 20.
Tyler Head: The Gamecocks have their backs up against the wall. The offense showed more promise last week vs Alabama, but I don’t think they have what it takes to keep up with Lane Kiffin’s scoring frenzy of an offense. Defense will keep them in it again, but I think ultimately the Gamecocks fall short. Ole Miss 31, South Carolina 20.
Mingo Martin: Last week was a heartbreaker, but it showed what the team not only could’ve been but should’ve been. I think South Carolina will have momentum heading to Oxford, but I don’t think they’ll leave with a win regardless. Ole Miss 28, South Carolina 13.

Kevin Miller: Lane Kiffin has proven himself to be a difficult hurdle for South Carolina football to jump over through the years. He has never lost to the Gamecocks, defeating USC as the head coach at Tennessee and owning a 2-0 mark since becoming the head coach at Ole Miss. I think that streak continues on Saturday. Despite some improvements against Alabama, the Carolina offense simply doesn’t have enough points in them to outduel a Kiffin-led unit. Ole Miss 31, South Carolina 21.
Wes Mitchell: After picking South Carolina to beat LSU and Oklahoma, I predicted the Gamecocks to play better last week but to ultimately lose 28-21 to Alabama. There’s no real rhyme or reason to this one, as on paper, it looks like another tough matchup for the Gamecocks, especially considering it’s on the road. But the Rebels do play a bunch of tight games, even to teams they’re supposedly better than. I’m going to keep firing away at a South Carolina upset because I’ve thought they’d eventually get one that no one expects and the Rebels may be due to drop one as the CFP pressure starts to mount. And also for the simple fact that I don’t believe anyone else on here will pick the upset. South Carolina 28, Ole Miss 24.
Jay Philips: After a heartbreaking home loss to Alabama last weekend, I think it’s fair to ask about the mindset the Gamecocks will have when they arrive in Oxford. Based on the program’s history under Shane Beamer, I think they’ll come to play, and do so with a bit of a chip on their shoulder, not just from last week but this fixture last year. We saw that Carolina can play with a highly ranked, very efficient team in the Bama loss, and that will need to happen again. Trinidad Chambliss is my breakout player of the entire CFB season, and the Ole Miss D is solid if not spectacular. I think USC can hang tough, but the Rebels are really good. Ole Miss 34, South Carolina 27.
Kendall Smith: Ole Miss has been steady in the spotlight throughout the season with the exception of their one hiccup on the road at Georgia. Trinidad Chambliss is the real deal and Lane Kiffin has a great thing going in Oxford (despite the coaching rumors.) Ole Miss might not be the biggest stadium in the SEC, but if I know one thing about Oxford, Mississippi, it’s that those fans are going to be invested. South Carolina showed signs of improvement last week in keeping it close with Alabama, but I just think Ole Miss is the better team here. Ole Miss 27, South Carolina 13.
Mike Uva: Ole Miss 31, South Carolina 17.
Jack Veltri: Two teams on completely opposite trajectories. Ole Miss has a good chance to make the College Football Playoff for the first time ever. South Carolina has lost five of its last six games and is trending towards missing a bowl game for the second time in three years. Sure, it’s November and the Gamecocks play well around this time of year, but this won’t be a November to remember. Ole Miss 31, South Carolina 17.
Chris Wellbaum: At this point, I don’t think South Carolina can win without help from the other team. It’s hard to get help on the road, especially against a team that knows it is playing for the CFP. Ole Miss is just too good offensively. Ole Miss 34, South Carolina 12.
