Gc Live South Carolina hires Mike Furrey as new WR coach

On Thursday, former South Carolina tight end Trey Knox met with the media at the NFL Combine IN Indianapolis.

During that time period, Knox became visibly emotional when talking about the impact Gamecock offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has had on him.

Prior to arriving at South Carolina last season, Knox played his first four years of college at Arkansas. That included playing two years for Loggains, who coached tight ends for the Razorbacks during Knox’s third and fourth seasons with the program in 2021-2022.

“I’ve never really been through (a) hardship that bad. I don’t want to play that up because it’s just a game at the end of the day,” said Knox. “(I) started in high school, started in college as a true freshman as an 18-year-old, fresh out of high school. Then you get benched and you’re at the bottom of the depth chart and moving positions — I had a bunch of self-doubt. Meeting a guy like Dowell (Loggains) just made me love the game again. I thank him for everything that he’s done for me.”

Knox went on to start every game for Arkansas in 2022 and caught 26 passes for 287 yards a career-high five touchdowns. Following Loggains to South Carolina in 2023, Knox started in all ten games he appeared in this past season and caught a career-high 37 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns.

“I have a feeling of gratitude. The dreams of a five-year-old kid back in Murfreesboro, Tennessee playing out in front of my eyes. It’s crazy. I’m here and now I just have to make the most of it.”

Knox is one of of five Gamecocks who were invited to this year’s NFL Combine. Joining Knox is Spencer Rattler, Xavier Legette, Nick Gargiulo and Marcellas Dial. The tight end will be taking part in field workouts on Friday. For a full guide on Gamecocks at the NFL Combine CLICK HERE.
