Tuesday update on South Carolina injuries for Clemson game

The latest update on the injury status of top South Carolina tight end Josh Simon for the Clemson game is that there is no update as of Tuesday.
The Gamecocks top three tight ends, Simon, Michael Smith, and Brady Hunt, all missed the Wofford game this past Saturday.
Hunt has already been ruled out for the Clemson game, while Beamer would only say “we’ll see” regarding the status of Simon and Smith during both his Tuesday press conference and call-in show Tuesday evening.
The Gamecocks’ fourth-year head coach did give a more definitive answer on the status of some of his other players.
“Jared Brown didn’t play against Wofford, he’ll be fine for Saturday,” Beamer said. “Some of the guys that left the game defensively or got banged up, they’re fine. Vandrevius Jacobs, he won’t play Saturday, that hamstring injury won’t allow him to be able to go. And then the other position, the tight end position, we’ll see where we are.”

Simon, Smith, and Hunt were all banged up in the Missouri game.
Hunt had already been ruled out for the Clemson game but is expected to return for postseason play.
Simon is South Carolina’s leading receiver with 31 catches for 433 yards and six touchdowns.
Jacobs, the redshirt freshman receiver who transferred in from Florida State, suffered his injury Saturday when he was tackled awkwardly and had to be helped off the field by trainers.

Beamer is not required to provide an official SEC player availability report this week since it’s not an SEC game.
While the annual Palmetto State showdown always carries weight in South Carolina, this year’s matchup has additional ramifications in that both teams are trying to make a late-season case for the College Football Playoff. Each is currently in the CFP Top 25 and will likely be in the Top 15 once the rankings are updated on Tuesday night.
The Gamecocks and Tigers are set for a noon kickoff in Clemson with ESPN carrying the action.
