In our limited times of seeing Wells in practice and the spring game, the first thing that comes to mind is explosiveness. Perhaps that’s why the buzz surrounding the transfer wide out from James Madison landed him as the No. 47 overall prospect and the No. 10 wide receiver in On3’s 2022 transfer portal rankings.
“I don’t ever want to feel complacent,” said Wells. “I don’t ever want to just settle for being good at one level. If there’s an opportunity to go to the next level and enhance my game then I’m definitely gonna do that.”
At 6-foot-1, 204 pounds, Wells has the ability to play both in the slot and on the outside. Last season at James Madison, he hauled in 83 passes for 1,250 yards and 15 touchdowns. Those numbers ranked tied for fourth, third and tied for first, respectively, in all of FCS in 2021.

“I felt like my time at JMU was just done because I accomplished most of my goals. Best receiver there, basically so I was like, ‘hey, let’s upgrade and try to do it now at the next level.'”
In just 22 collegiate games, Wells ranks third all-time at James Madison in career receiving touchdowns (21), ninth in career receiving yards (1,853) and ninth in career receptions (116).
“Being (at South Carolina) is also preparing me for the NFL. That’s the main goal behind this so why not take the opportunity and do that… I’ve just had to prove that I’m a hard worker and that I’m willing to put the work in to help this team get to another level. They’ve accepted that.”
