Video: DB David Bucey commits to South Carolina

6-0, 200-pound DB David Bucey has committed to the Gamecocks. A Savannah, GA native, Bucey racked up over 100 tackles including four sacks last season. He also had five interceptions and shined at wide out with over 700 yards receiving. His play earned him Georgia 3A Athlete of the Year honors.

As of his commitment, Bucey is not ranked yet by On3. He’s considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports and the No. 97 linebacker in the country. However, Gamecock Central recruiting insider Wes Mitchell has learned that Bucey has been recruited to play safety for USC. He also has experience of playing some nickle, a position that the Gamecocks have been able to find some gems during the Shane Beamer era. He’s also somebody who South Carolina hopes can make an impact of special teams.

Bucey chooses the Gamecocks less than two weeks after being offered by USC. He chooses South Carolina over a dozen offers from FBS teams including West Virginia, Iowa State, and App State. That list also includes Georgia Tech who offered him shortly after the Gamecocks did.

Prior to Bucey’s commitment, South Carolina ranked No.11 on On3’s 2024 Team Recruiting Industry Rankings. So, at least for now, Bucey is the 13th commitment to USC’s class of 2024. Because don’t forget, there’s still one silent commit who Beamer announced on June 12. That remains the only silent commit as far as #WelcomeHome tweets go at the moment.
