LaNorris Sellers will have a big decision to make regarding his future after this season comes to an end.

Now in his third year at South Carolina, the redshirt sophomore quarterback has a few options at his disposal. Once this season is over, he will be eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft. He could also decide to stay with the Gamecocks for another year. There’s always the chance he could transfer to another school.

No immediate decisions are going to be made right now, not with three games to go in the regular season, as South Carolina is fighting an uphill battle to become bowl eligible. But as things start to wind down, what Sellers decides to do next after this year will be talked about much more often.

During Thursday’s episode of The McShay Show, NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay shared his take on Sellers’ future and what pro scouts believe would be best for him moving forward.

“There’s a strong opinion in NFL scouting circles he will be back in school next year,” McShay said, “that he absolutely needs to for his development. … Everyone is supporting the concept that he needs another year of college. And there are people in his camp who are in agreement, is what I’m told.”

Despite some struggles this year, Sellers still appears as a first-round draft choice in many analysts’ mock drafts. All underclassmen typically have until Jan. 15 to declare for the draft, which gives him some time to think about what he ultimately wants to do.

McShay didn’t rule out the possibility of Sellers transferring either, though. The transfer portal will officially open on Jan. 2 and remain open until Jan. 16 as part of the new single, 15-day window.

McShay believes “there’s some programs out there lurking” to keep an eye on that may try to land Sellers this offseason if he enters the portal.

“There is a place in South Florida where they’ve done a really nice job of hand-picking quarterbacks the last two years,” he said. “They’ve seen ascensions in their game, and they have a lot of talent around that quarterback position, and they haven’t been able to take that next step.

“Miami is a program I would be very cautious of, if I’m Shane Beamer, and the Gamecocks program, of trying to come in with an offer that is very difficult to refuse.”

It’s worth noting that Miami will likely be in the market for a quarterback for the third straight year this offseason. The Hurricanes currently have Georgia transfer Carson Beck starting under center, but he will be out of eligibility after this season.

As for Sellers and South Carolina, head coach Shane Beamer said he talks with his star quarterback regularly, though a lot of those conversations pertain to “life and football and how to help him be better.”

“Certainly, we’ve discussed, there’s a time and place to discuss his decisions beyond 2025,” Beamer said on Sunday. “Right now, it’s helping him and the rest of our team be the best version of themselves these next three weeks. We still haven’t played our best football, and we’re still chasing that.”

Sellers has thrown for 1,536 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions this year. He’s also rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns.

The Gamecocks are off this weekend and will be back in action next Saturday, Nov. 15, when they travel to College Station to face No. 3 Texas A&M. Kickoff will be at noon on either ESPN or ABC.
