Former Georgia Tech head coach Geoff Collins‘ addition was the most noteworthy change to the South Carolina football staff entering the 2025 season but there were other, more subtle, tweaks this offseason that may have flown under the radar.

Former Limestone linebackers coach Hunter Maynard joined the staff this summer as a defensive analyst working with the linebackers.

Maynard was at Limestone from 2022-25, including working under current South Carolina wide receivers coach Mike Furrey when he was the head coach in Gaffney.

Several former graduate assistants on staff have been promoted to bigger titles this offseason.

Former Gamecocks All-American safety Jaylan Foster, who served as a GA for the last two seasons, has been promoted to the “defensive assistant” title. He’ll continue to work with Torrian Gray and the South Carolina defensive backs.

University of South Carolina graduate Jordan Dove has been promoted to defensive assistant after two years as a graduate assistant as well. Dove will continue to assist defensive line coach Travian Robertson with the Gamecocks’ defensive tackles.

Alabama grad John Rudnicki has taken a similar path. After spending the last two seasons as a GA, Rudnicki moved into the offensive assistant role this season, helping Marquel Blackwell with the Gamecocks’ running backs.

As was previously reported, South Carolina hired former Oregon Director of High School Recruiting Brian Bachman as its new Assistant Director of Player Personnel in June.

Bachman spent the last three-plus years at Oregon where he was first a recruiting and scouting assistant before moving up to an Assistant Director of Player Personnel role and then adding the Director of High School Recruiting title.

With Mike Shula‘s promotion to offensive coordinator following Dowell Loggains’ departure, the Gamecocks added two new coaches to assist the NFL veteran in January.

South Carolina graduate Ben Burress joined the staff as Pass Game Specialist after 10 years in the NFL.

Burress, who spent the last six seasons with the New York Giants, previously spent four years with the Panthers, including three seasons as an offensive and football operations assistant working with Shula.

Davis Koetter joined the staff as assistant quarterbacks coach after two seasons under Steve Sarkisian at Texas, one as a graduate assistant with the QBs and another as an analyst working with the tight ends.

As previously reported, Furrey added the passing game coordinator (offense) title, while Sterling Lucas added run game coordinator duties and Torrian Gray added the passing game coordinator title on defense.

Nine of South Carolina’s 10 on-field coaches from 2024 remain in the program, with Loggains the only one to leave.
