'Old washed up' Cordarrelle Patterson reports his own release from Steelers on his off day

Cordarrelle Patterson has been released by the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to … Cordarrelle Patterson. On Monday afternoon Patterson took to social media to announce his own release. 

“Breaking news,” Patterson wrote on social media, “Pittsburgh Steelers release old washed up cordarrelle patterson on his day off!!!”

According to ESPN, Patterson had one year left on a two-year, $6 million contract he signed with the Steelers last year. ESPN also reported that the move saves the Steelers $2.8 million in salary cap space.

The 34-year-old Patterson, who starred at Tennessee during the 2012 season, has played in 183 career games since being selected in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He won Super Bowl LIII with the New England Patriots in 2018, catching two passes for 14 yards, carrying once for seven yards and returned a kick 38 yards.

His versatility has kept him in the league the last 12 years, with six different teams. He has 2,646 career rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns, 2,875 career receiving yards and 17 touchdown catches and has averaged 29.0 yards per kick return on 284 attempts, returning an NFL-record nine kickoffs for touchdowns

Patterson spent four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, two seasons with the Chicago Bears and one season each with the Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots and Steerers.

He had 32 rushed for 135 yards in Pittsburgh last season and caught 12 passes for 80 yards.

Patterson had a career year with the Falcons in 2021, running 144 times for 695 yards and eight touchdowns and caught 52 passes on 69 targets for 548 yards and five receiving touchdowns, giving him 1,116 yards from scrimmage and 11 total touchdowns.

At Tennessee in 2012, Patterson caught 46 passes for 778 yards and five touchdowns and rushed 25 times for 308 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 28.0 yards on 24 kickoff returns and had one kickoff return for a touchdown. He caught returned four punts for a total of 101 yards and had one punt return touchdown.

According to Spotrac, Patterson has earned $42.9 million during his NFL career, including $7.2 million wit the Vikings, $8.5 million wit the Raiders, $10 millions with the Bears, $13.5 million with the Falcons and $6 million with the Steelers.

Along with being a Super Bowl champion, Patterson was a four-time Pro Bowler and was All-Pro four times.
