WATCH: Jahmai Mashack beats Alabama on a buzzer beater three
Tennessee closed on a 7-0 run in the last :30 seconds capped off by a Jahmai Mashack buzzer beater three as the No. 5 Vols beat No. 6 Alabama 79-76 in an absolute instant classic.
It was Mashack, the senior who made every play the last :30 seconds to win the game. The veteran made 2 free throws to tie it at 76. He got to the line because of an effort play on a missed Chaz Lanier free throw. Mashack stole inside position on the other side of the paint as the Tide couldnāt block him out.
Tennessee anchored in to play defense the last :30 seconds and it was Mashack who forced a jump ball with :03.8 seconds left. The Vol defense led by Mashack forced a 5-second call, giving Tennessee one final chance. Mashack was not the first option but was the only player open. He got the ball in back court, he got a nice screen just past the time line from Felix Okpara and drilled the shot as time expired.
āThis crowd. Thereās nothing like it. I donāt do that without my teammates,ā Mashack told ESPNās Molly McGrath after the game. āI told them we know what we are built for. We know who we are. This is what we have done every single day. Donāt question what it is. I donāt care if we are down 20 or up 20, stick to the program. Itās in our blood. Itās who we are.ā
