Jared Dickey named second team All-SEC by league's coaches

The All-Southeastern Conference baseball teams were announced Monday afternoon and Tennessee had one representative voted on by the league’s head coaches. Jared Dickey was named to the second team after his breakout regular season for the Big Orange.
A redshirt-sophomore, Dickey has been the Vols best and most consistent hitter this year, registering a .348 clip at the plate and 70 hits. Both stats lead the team, and the outfielder has logged 12 home runs and 46 RBI on the year, tied for fourth and second respectively amongst the Vols.
Dickey has tied his career-high for three hits in a contest on seven different occasions this season and has spent time at all three outfield spots, behind the plate at catcher and as the team’s designated hitter for points in time this year. The athlete, who has swiped 7-of-10 bags on the year, has settled in as the club’s primary left fielder for the past two months.
Prior to the season, the former Friendship Christian School standout was tabbed a preseason All-American by Baseball America and was recently named one of the Top-150 MLB Draft Prospects by MLB Pipeline.

Dickey made his return to the Volunteer lineup against South Carolina in the regular-season finale on Saturday after missing four-straight starts at his normal three-hole hitting slot in Tony Vitello’s batting order. His shoulder was injured while diving headfirst into home plate against Kentucky two weekends ago.
Tennessee finished the 2023 regular season with a 38-18 overall record and a 16-14 mark in conference play. Dickey tallied a .369 batting average with six home runs and 23 RBI during league play alone this year. The Vols are set to begin the SEC Tournament on Tuesday as the seventh seed, taking on 10-seeded Texas A&M in the second game of the single-elimination round.
