JJ Finch recaps Tennessee visit
Tennessee hosted Indianapolis defensive end JJ Finch on Thursday. Following the visit, he recapped his time on Rocky Top with Volquest.
“I really enjoyed the practice and getting to bond with coach Heup and the staff,” Finch said. “There’s a lot of things I like about Tennessee, but it’s the staff and the conference obviously and just geographically closest to home that plays in the SEC really.”
The time with Josh Heupel was both special and unique according to Finch.
“He is open you know and there is no moment that you feel like that you shouldn’t be able to talk to coach,” Finch said. “He’s definitely a great dude. That’s very unique because every program you don’t get that. I think it’s pretty pretty huge.”
Coach Chop has been recruiting Finch hard for over a year. They have a strong bond.
“When I talk to coach Chop, it’s really just about how they going how they gonna use me,” Finch said. “And the relationship is really strong that we built for over year now.”
He got to hang with Rodney Garner on Thursday and see what he is like on the practice field and in the meeting room.

“Coach G, really just how he just can coach one on one with all the D-Lineman individually really and that your versatility is key,” Finch said of the veteran SEC defensive line coach.
At 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds, the Warren Central product believes he brings a versatile game. The ability to affect the game in different ways is important and so is continuing to improve.
“Really my ability to play inside or outside and be able to be on the field for all three downs,” Finch said. “I gotta get better with my hands for sure. Really just keep doing the drills and keep going with my trainer.”
Finch likes the proximity and the downtown area in Knoxville. He had his family along and they very much enjoyed their time on Rocky Top as well. He plans on visiting Tennessee officially this summer.
