Tennessee picked up another commitment on Friday when Georgia legacy Kedric Golston picked the Vols. He detailed his decision with Volquest and explained why Tennessee left an impression from the jump.

“I mean since day one like back when sophomore year when I came to the first practice, I felt it was just an amazing culture,” Golston said. “I love Coach Garner and I know he puts people into the league. I know that he develops people and I know that he has my best interest and has what’s best for me in his mind.”

His father Kedric Golston Sr. played for Rodney Garner at Georgia. It was easy to build a bond with Garner because of the long history inside his family.

“I think it’s grown tremendously,” Golston said. “Just like over the years it’s been like hey I’m just here with my dad and it’s good to see you again but now it’s become that he actually knows me. He’s actually getting to know me on a more personal level and get to know the things that I like to do and all that.”

He has felt good about Tennessee for a long time. He loved how they recruited him and all that started with one guy and how the culture trickled down from there.

“I think it started with coach (Josh) Heupel,” Golston said. “Just knowing that he’s the same guy every day and that coach G is the same guy every day. I know that he’s really going to push me and make me work hard because I mean everybody knows that he’s not an easy coach. He is not going to let you slip by just because you’re good and you’re the best on the team and stuff so I just know that I wanted somebody that was gonna be there to push me every day and I have firsthand experience on how it works because my dad with him. I just trusted him the most out of all the schools that were recruiting me.”

Golston has continued to grow and get bigger. That has meant a change of positions over the last year. His dad was a longtime NFL vet on the defensive line. Versatility is something he brings to the table.

“I think just growing into the position more because I started off like this time last year, I was still a middle backer and I just made the switch,” Golston said. “That season was kind of iffy but I was getting the hang of it so I think just growing and learning more of the technique and actually realizing what they’re outside backer position is like really and what it takes to be successful.”

Golston also got to know Chop Harbin through the process.

“I like just like that he keeps it real,” Golston said. “We were going over all the installs and stuff and he knows exactly what he’s talking about. He could install everything without even looking at it.”
