Late-rising DL Nic'Quayvion Simmons details commitment to Tennessee
Tennessee has added the commitment of late-rising defensive lineman Nic’Quayvion Simmons, and he details the decision with Volquest.
“I just came here to let them know that I am 100 percent, and I am ready to be a Vol,” Simmons told Volquest after his official visit, when he committed to the Vols. “I knew Tennessee was right for me when I first came up here for the Oklahoma game and just from talking to Coach G and everyone on the phone and seeing how much they want me up here. I like this school. “t’s like family here. Everybody here’s welcoming. I just love it. I love the environment. I love the stadium.”
Garner played a big role in Simmons decision to choose the Vols late in the process.
“He is a great man, he treats everyone like one of his kids,” Simmons told Volquest of Garner and how he factored into the decision. “
Simmons was excited to tell Josh Heupel the news on Sunday prior to the conclusion of his official visit.

“Coach Heupel is a really good dude,” Simmons said. “He told me that he was ready for me to become a Vol, and that they were excited to tell. He gave me a hug and shook my hand and just told me they were ready.”
Simmons had been playing eight man football prior to switching to 11-man football at Carver, where former Georgia standout Jarvis Jones is the Head Coach. He believes this led to him blowing up late.
“I was playing eight man before I went to Carver, then I started learning more about the defensive line. In eight man football, I was playing every position out there from running back to tight end,” Simmons said.
Tennessee plans to use Simmons along the interior of the defensive line.
“They will use me as a 2I. They like that I am explosive and how I get off the ball.”
