For the second time in less than a week, the Tennessee baseball program has added a left-handed pitcher via the transfer portal as former Duke hurler Mark Hindy committed to Tony Vitello and staff from the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound pitcher appeared in 26 games in 2025 out of the bullpen for the Blue Devils, combining to go 1-0 with a 4.66 ERA across 29 innings. He allowed 15 earned runs off 24 hits, struck out 38 batters and walked 15. Opponents tallied a .224 average against him.

Hindy pitched three seasons at William & Mary prior to making his way to Durham. In total, the lefty is 6-3 with a 4.45 ERA with 111 strikeouts and 39 walks in 89.0 over his career. The hurler made one appearance in 2022 before missing the rest of the campaign due to injury. He did not pitch in 2023.

The Essex Fells, N.J. native was considered the No. 339 left-handed pitcher in the 2020 recruiting class, according to Perfect Game. He has one year of eligibility remining and is not considered a draft risk.

Based on stats alone, it appears Duke used Hindy much like Tennessee did Dylan Loy out of the bullpen. The former Tennessee left-handed pitcher, who recently committed to Georgia Tech out of the transfer portal, led the Southeastern Conference with 33 appearances in 2025, striking out 36 batters in 34 innings of work.

The Vols now have 11 commits out of the transfer portal and seven-only pitchers, to go along with a pair of two-way players.

Baseball Transfer Portal

The 2025 non-graduate transfer portal opened on June 2 and will remain open until July 1. Players must have their name entered in the transfer portal by July 1 if they want to move on, but new destinations do not have to be made by that time.

The Vols have benefited greatly from the transfer portal in recent cycles, reeling in the likes of Chase Dollander (2022), Griffin Merritt (2023), Maui Ahuna (2023), Zane Denton (2023), Billy Amick (2024), Cannon Peebles (2024), AJ Causey (2024), Chris Stamos (2024), Liam Doyle (2025), Andrew Fischer (2025) and Gavin Kilen (2025).

Tennessee now has 11 additions via the transfer portal, a list that includes right-handed pitchers Clay Edmondson (UNC Asheville), Mason Estrada (MIT), Bo Rhudy (Kennesaw State), Brady Frederick (ETSU), utility Garrett Wright (Bowling Green), RHP/OF DJ Newman (Bowling Green), LHP/OF Blaine Brown (Rice) and 1B/OF Henry Ford (Virginia), RHP Landon Mack (Rutgers) and LHP Evan Blanco (Virgina). Tennessee has also added junior college players such as RHP Matt Barr (SUNY Niagara) and Tyler Myatt (Walters State) and picked up catcher Trent Grindlinger as a late add to the 2025 class in recent weeks.

Tennessee lost 25 players to the transfer portal who were on the 2025 roster: INF Jack Jones, INF Robinson Martin, LHP Bryson Thacker, RHP Brayden Sharp, RHP Austin Hunley, RHP Thomas Crabtree, OF Colby Backus, LHP Ryler Smart, LHP Dylan Loy, LHP Andrew Behnke, RHP Austin Breedlove, RHP/OF Beau Revord, LHP Michael Sharman, LHP Brayden May, LHP Luke Payne, RHP Tanner Wiggins, LHP Dane Bjorn, RHP Stratton Scott, RHP Andrew DuMont, RHP Ben Martin, INF Dane Morrow, C Brooks Wright, RHP Aidan Hayse, RHP Tate Strickland and RHP Ryan Combs.
