Tennessee Basketball five-star freshman wing Nate Ament was a limited participant in Tuesday afternoon’s practice while dealing with what the Vols have described as a minor ankle injury. His limited status in practice was a precautionary measure, with the injury not expected to be serious.

Sophomore point guard Bishop Boswell was also limited during practice at Food City Center, working on the side alongside Ament. It’s a left ankle issue for Ament and a right foot issue for Boswell.

Ament, named the SEC’s Freshman of the Week on Monday, is averaging 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists over his first two games with the Vols. Boswell is averaging 5.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists in two games.

Up Next: No. 20 Tennessee vs. North Florida

No. 20 Tennessee (2-0) hosts North Florida (0-1) on Wednesday (7 p.m. Eastern Time, SEC Network+) and plays Rice and Tennessee State at home next week, before playing in the Players Era Men’s Championship in Las Vegas Nov. 24-27.

Ament scored a game-high 23 points in the 95-56 win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday, while adding eight rebounds, five assists and two steals in 24 minutes. He appeared to be slightly hobbled in the first half after hitting a 3-point shot from the corner and getting fouled on the play.

Ament had 18 points, nine rebounds and an assist in his Tennessee debut in the 76-61 win over Mercer on November 3.

“I think each and every day he goes out, he’s learning a little bit something every day,” Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said before practice on Tuesday. “I think even in practice, playing against guys that really know his game now, that can continue to push him. I think practice is still a big part of his learning experience.”

Bishop Boswell started, played 39 minutes in first two games

Boswell has started games this season, totaling 11 points and 13 rebounds in 39 minutes. He played 17 minutes against Mercer and 22 against Northern Kentucky, going 3-for-5 from the 3-point line in the two games.

Boswell started in the exhibition loss against Duke on October 26, but was scoreless in his 24 minutes on the floor. Barnes said afterward that it was his defense that got him in the starting lineup and extensive minutes.

“Defensively, we want that,” Barnes said. “We felt maybe we could get Moe (Amaree Abram) to come off the bench and give us some offense. I thought Bishop defensively, he’s going to compete at a high level. He’s going to do that.”
