New Jersey safety KJ McClain 'really excited' about opportunity to sign with Tennessee
New Jersey defensive back KJ McClain committed to the Vols in early June, and he has been locked in since. He has now signed and is ready to see his next chapter start on Rocky Top.
“I am really excited about this,” McClain told Volquest prior to signing. “I have always wanted to play D1 football, so just to even have that opportunity is great, but to have the opportunity at a place like Tennessee is unreal.”
“I am a smaller player, so I have to use my speed and my physicality,” McClain said of this. “Doing this, I am able to just be around the ball and make things happen. That is the biggest impact I bring.”

“KJ is one of the better players we have had come through here,” St. Joseph Regional Head Coach Augie Hoffman told Volquest. “He comes down hill at you, and he is a sure tackler and plays well in space, and he really does a good job for us.”

As McClain’s game continues to grow and improve, Hoffman also shared where the three-star prospect can continue to make strides.
“I think it is just going to be the physical piece of the game,” Hoffman added. “He has really taken to the weight room this year, and he he has gotten bigger, faster, and stronger. I think playing in the SEC, you have to keep building his body. His work habits are there. His brain is there, and he really understands the game, so I think it is going to be continuing to work on his body and physically being the best player he can be”
