OL Edward Baker 'been waiting a long time' to sign with the Vols
St. Frances Academy standout offensive lineman Edward Baker was a long-time target for Tennessee. He committed to the Vols in the summer, but Josh Heupel’s program led for Baker for months prior to the commitment. He is now excited to get his career on Rocky Top started.
“My excitement level is super high right now,” Baker told Volquest. “This has been something I have been waiting for a long time. A goal that I can definitely say I am proud to accomplish. Getting an offer from Tennessee, making sure it was committable, and now just being able to take it to the next level is so exciting.”

Baker is ready to get to work in Knoxville and compete right away.
“I feel like my impact can be felt immediately from day one,” Baker said of this. “I just want to come in, get to work and get into the rotation. Once I really get the playbook down, I feel like I will be able to touch the field even more. If Lance leaves, then that will open up an interior spot on the offensive line because David would probably move to left tackle and Jesse could move out to right some, so it would leave a spot open for me to come in and try and compete and take. I feel like my impact is going to be immediately just because they are going to see a young guy come in and compete.”
The Scout on Baker
“The one thing that sets him apart is his IQ,” Baker’s trainer Najee Brown previously told Volquest. “When it comes down to the Xs and Os, he is able to play a chess game. I would say that in pass pro and run game, from understanding body parts and different movements. His IQ is one of his major attributes when it comes to him being a stellar athlete. After that part, I would say his stellar foot work. He is a guy that wears a size 17 cleat, and when you have a guy that is that big, you don’t expect those agile movements from him. That is something we hang our hat on just due to the fact that he was a heavy-footed guy and getting his feet movable. He was very keen on being a big skill and making sure we can move as fast as these defensive ends.”
