It was a busy weekend for Tennessee as the Volunteer coaching staff welcomed several transfer targets to campus with hopes of luring them to Knoxville by way of the portal.

One player in town the past few days was Arizona State transfer defensive lineman Omar Norman-Lott. The 6-foot-3, 290-pound defender was a part-time starter for Sun Devils this past season, finishing with 44 tackles and seven TFLs the past two seasons.

The transfer has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

“This weekend was great. No complaints,” Norman-Lott said when leaving town Sunday afternoon. “It was nothing I thought it would be as this was my first time being in the East. It was better.

“I liked the massive facility and the trueness of the coaching staff. Asking them questions and getting a lot of feedback – they were giving me a lot of truth.”

Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner has had his eye on Norman-Lott for a while now. While on the road last month, Garner stopped by to see the defensive lineman.

“He reminds me a lot of my grandfather and I have a lot of respect for him,” the transfer target said of Garner. “He’s a wise man and has coached a lot of NFL guys. He knows what he is talking about.”

It wasn’t just this time around, either, as Garner channeled in on the defender last year when he entered the transfer portal. Normal-Lott ended up staying with the Sun Devils but has since entered the portal once again. Garner and head coach Josh Heupel are hoping this time around brings better results.

“He’s a great dude,” Norman-Lott said of Heupel. “He was just saying how he wants me to come here, get acclimated to the culture and to be a guy they can rely on. He was just preaching that he wants me to be here and to be that guy.”

So, with a commitment somewhere expected sooner rather than later, what will Tennessee get if they win out for the defensive lineman?

“The player they would get is someone who is dedicated and ready to work,” the transfer said on if he were to choose the Volunteers. “I’m open to any coaching – anything. I’m a guy who is dedicated to the offseason work, so they would be getting a guy who is a worker.

“Once you get a helmet on me and I get in pads out there on the field, the rest will take care of itself. It’s the offseason work that people don’t see that I really find valuable. I’m a dedicated person who is ready to work.”

Tennessee has already added four players from the transfer portal and are eager to add to that count.
