Rocky Top Roundtable: Syracuse

The long offseason wait is over as Tennessee travel to Atlanta on Saturday to face Syracuse. The crew from Volquest dish in the matchup in this week’s Rocky Top Roundtable.
“I think it’s going to be fun to see what this offense morphs into as the season goes along,” Brent Hubbs said. “But what is it out of the gate? How quick do they get settled in? What kind of adversity do they have early in terms of busted assignments, guys jumping off sides. Both of these teams have so much newness on the offensive side of the ball, it’s a fascinating matchup.”
The matchup is interesting because of the new faces on both teams but for Tennessee fans, it’s their first look at Joey Aguilar. The spring transfer won the job in fall camp and now will get the first crack at the Orange.

“Everyone wants to see Joey Aguilar,” Rob Lewis said. “What’s your quarterback going to look like? It’s very rare at this level that you are starting a quarterback that has never taken a snap for your team before in a season or in a spring game. It’s really unique. That’s what it’s going to be all about for Tennessee fans. What does your guy look like? We are about to saddle up and ride through the season with him and you haven’t seen him in a Tennessee uniform.”
Tennessee brings a deep and talented defense into this matchup and Tim Banks likes his unit.
“I think just the youth and enthusiasm that we have,” Banks said. “Obviously we’ve lost some parts, some production, but the thing that I’m super excited about is just the youth. These guys are young, but they’re hungry. We’re extremely athletic in a lot of spots. Obviously you don’t know exactly until you get going. We’ll find out a little bit more this Saturday, but everything they’ve done since spring, since camp, leads me to believe that these guys in the moment won’t be too big for them.”
