A closer look at Banana Ball

The Bananas play their own brand of baseball against teams such as the Party Animals, Firefighters, Tailgaters, Coconuts and Clowns.

The rules of Banana Ball include innings being worth points, a two-hour time limit, no stepping out, not bunting, no walks and batters stealing first. Foul balls caught by fans are counted as outs.

Banana Ball also includes players taking part in choreographed dances, skits, over-the-top celebrations and other in-game antics.

Banana Ball was tested for the first time at Lander University in November 2018 and the team played their first game at Grayson Stadium in Savannah in June 2020.

The team went on the road and began selling out stadium in 2021 and went on tour in 2022. ESPN started broadcasting Banana Ball games in August 2022 and the first full season began in 2023.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame also debuted a Banana Ball exhibit in 2023.
