Live Updates: No. 5 Tennessee basketball at Georgia

ATHENS — After the 77-72 loss at Mississippi State on Wednesday, No. 5 Tennessee basketball is back on the road to face Georgia on Saturday at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens. Tipoff is set for Noon Eastern Time and the game will be televised by ESPN2.

Tennessee (11-4, 1-1 SEC), after opening SEC play with a 90-64 win over Ole Miss, trailed by 15 points in the first half at Mississippi State. The Vols rallied to tie the game three different times in the second half, before losing on Tolu Smith’s go-ahead layup with 17.4 seconds left.

Georgia (12-3, 2-0) have won 10 straight games, including wins at Missouri and at home against Arkansas to start SEC play.

A Closer Look: Georgia

Georgia was 2-3 after the first five games of the season, but has reeled off 10 straight wins since then, including a road win at Missouri (75-68) and a home win over Arkansas (76-66) to start SEC play. 

The Dawgs enter Saturday’s game at No. 73 overall in the KenPom ratings, ranked No. 41 in adjusted defensive efficiency (97.3) and No. 119 in adjusted offensive efficiency (119). Tennessee after the loss at Mississippi State is ranked No. 6 overall by KenPom, with the No. 2 defense (90.5) and No. 23 offense (116.2).

Mike White is 29-19 (8-12 SEC) in his second season at Georgia. He went 142-88 in seven seasons at Florida, taking the Gators to the Elite Eight in 2017 and going to the second round of the NCAA Tournament three times. He went 16-16 and finished 11th in the SEC in his first season at Georgia.

Guard Noah Thomasson leads Georgia in scoring at 12.7 points per game, just ahead of Jabri Abdur-Rahim’s 12.3 points per game. Russel Tchewa, Georgia’s 7-foot, 275-pound center, leads the team in rebounding at 6.7 per game, while averaging 6.9 points in 22.6 minutes per game.
