Tennessee baseball’s 2024 conference schedule was announced Wednesday afternoon by the Southeastern Conference. The Vols will host five league series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium this season, starting with Ole Miss on March 22-24.

The other interconference series at the friendly confines includes Georgia (March 29-31), LSU (April 12-14), Missouri (26-28) and South Carolina (May 16-18). Tennessee will once again start the league schedule on the road, traveling to Alabama for a March 15-17 weekend. The Vols will be at Auburn (April 5-7), Kentucky (April 19-21), Florida (May 3-5) and Vanderbilt (May 10-12) as well on the season.

UT’s conference-opening series at Alabama marks the fifth time under Tony Vitello the Vols beginning the conference slate away from Lindsey Nelson Stadium. It’ll once again be a grueling conference slate, as seven of the 10 SEC opponents played in an NCAA Regional last summer while LSU and Florida battled for the national title. The two, along with Tennessee, represented the SEC in Omaha last season for the College World series.

The Hoover Met in Hoover, Ala. will host the SEC Tournament beginning on Tuesday, May 21. Tennessee began last season’s conference slate with a 5-10 record before closing by winning 11 of their final 15 games in SEC play and 15 of 19 overall.

Tennessee feasted on the portal this offseason

In today’s age of college athletics, it’s get with the times or get left behind. The regular season runs straight up to the transfer portal window and it remains open for 45 days, which is a couple of weeks following the College World Series. Tennessee was still laying for the majority of the transfer portal window.

Despite this, the Vols were highly productive in adding to their roster over the offseason. Cannon Peebles was a standout freshman for NC State this year, starting 30 games at designated-hitter and nine behind the plate. The youngster tallied a .352 average with 12 home runs and a team-leading 52 RBI. He’ll have plenty of opportunities to see action behind the plate for the Vols in 2024.

Clemson utility Billy Amick was an All-American last season, hitting .413 at the dish. He’ll spend plenty of time at the corner infield spots for Tennessee. Dalton Bargo was Missouri’s designated-hitter as a true freshman in 2023 and will add another bat and depth behind the plate moving forward. Former Wichita State flame-thrower Nate Snead will add velocity to the back end of the bullpen and former Jacksonville State hurler AJ Causey gives the Vols another starting pitcher option.

In all, the Vols plucked six players from the transfer portal during the span. Wofford slugger Ryan Galanie also committed to the Vols during the window, but instead chose to sign with the Chicago White Sox after being drafted in the 13th round.
