In a non-surprising move, Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy has declared for the NFL Draft. McCoy made the announcement Wednesday evening on his Instagram page.

McCoy arrived at Tennessee in January of 2024 transferring in from Oregon State. He made a huge impact in the fall helping Tennessee to their best defense of the Heupel era.

He recorded 44 tackles, 4 interceptions and 9 PBU’s in 2024.

McCoy was set to have another big season on Rocky Top but suffered a torn ACL in January of this year while back home in Texas working out. The hope was McCoy would return at some point this fall, but was never able to get healthy enough to play.

At Oregon State, McCoy had 31 tackles and two interceptions in 12 games as a freshman at Oregon State before transferring to Tennessee.

McCoy arrived at Oregon State as a receiver and moved to defensive back where he found instant success.

NFL scouts are split on McCoy after missing season with ACL tear

McCoy was projected as a top-10 pick and the No. 1 corner off the board over the summer, before missing all of the 2025 season.

He did not play after tearing his ACL during offseason training in January. He was a star last season with 44 tackles, nine passes defended and four interceptions. He had 31 tackles and two interceptions in 12 games as a freshman at Oregon State before transferring to Tennessee.

“Some scouts believe (McCoy) is a top-10 prospect,” ESPN’s Field Yates wrote, “while others are dubious he will even go in the first round without any tape this season. But his elite skill set was obvious with the Volunteers last season, resulting in four interceptions and nine pass breakups. And the Eagles have taken a chance on injured prospects before, drafting linebacker Jihaad Campbell in April despite some concern over a left shoulder injury.”
