Tony Vitello and the Tennessee baseball staff reeled in yet another massive fish to the 2027 recruiting class when Eastvale, Calif. native Dylan Seward pledged his commitment to the Vols publicly on Friday afternoon. He was on campus for an official visit on the weekend of September 13.

The shortstop is considered the No. 2 overall player in the cycle, per Perfect Game, and is the No. 2 player at the shortstop position. He becomes one of the highest-ranked players to ever commit to Tennessee baseball, joining the likes of Brady House who committed to Vitello and the Vols as a part of the 2021 class.

House, as expected, went straight to professional baseball as he was drafted No. 11 overall by the Washington Nationals.

Seward’s commitment makes it 11 for Tennessee’s 2027 class at current standing, one that ranked No. 3 overall by Perfect Game prior to his announcement. Tennessee now has three shortstops in the class as Seward joins the ranks of fellow highly-touted prospects Max Hemenway (No. 7) and Banks Addison (No. 44).

All three of those shortstop commits can bat from the left side as Seward is a switch-hitter. The newest pledge stands in at 6-foot-0, weighing 175 pounds and throws right-handed. Seward becomes the eighth top 100 player for the Vols in the class.

The Scout from Perfect Game

True shortstop with high level athleticism and arm strength. 6.22 runner in the sixty. Big bat speed and offensive potential. Has all the tools.

2025 PG JR. National Showcase: Dylan Seward is a 2027 SS with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Eastvale, CA who attends Norco. Medium athletic build. Outstanding runner with very quick twitch actions, 6.22 runner in the sixty. Primary shortstop on defense, fast feet with quickness in all directions, gathers cleanly with a quick and clean exchange, plenty of arm strength, has all the defensive tools for shortstop. Switch-hitter at the plate, sets up in a medium stance with a simple stride into his swing, simple and repeatable mechanics and timing. Very fast hands from the left side, explosive at contact, can drive the ball hard, still projects with the bat. Less raw bat speed right-handed but hands play well on this side, just a bit better left-handed. Elite level athlete. Outstanding student.
