Tennessee impresses fast rising safety Jowell Combay

Atlanta area safety Jowell Combay is seeing so much momentum in his recruitment this spring. He was in Knoxville this weekend and spoke with Volquest after the visit to detail his thoughts on Tennessee.
“It was fun,” Combay said. “I got to hang out with the coaches and see the competitiveness in this program. I got to spend time with coach E.T., Coach Banks and Coach Nez so just being able to hang around them, have fun today, it’s not my first time, so I’m just building a better relationship with them.”
Tennessee has been coming on strong for Combay. The Kell High defensive back notices how the Vols have been pushing,
“Every time I talk to them they tell me I’m a priority,” Combay said. “How much we talk, how often we talk, and when we get on the phone, how cool the conversation is, because when we talk, we have been talking so long.”
He loves the staff and has enjoyed getting to know Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks.
“He is a good guy,” Combay said. “The first time I met him, he was like, very kind of serious,” Combay said. “As I got to know him, he’s just smiles more and is more himself.”
Combay is 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. He firmly believes he can play almost anywhere in the secondary as versatility is critical.

“Everybody does a little bit of everything,” Combah said. “I feel like I would bring competitiveness and get the quarterback the ball. I feel like I need to improve with ball skills and getting in and out of breaks faster.”
So what makes Tennessee stand out when he looks at his recruitment?
“Just the love that they show and how consistent they’ve been,” Combay said. “I feel like they’ve been very consistent. They show me love. I’ve talked to Coach Heupel probably like once a week and I appreciate how they treat me.”
And his time with Josh Heupel also continues to stand out.
“I feel he’s a good guy,” Combay said. “We play basketball and we got to go to his house, and we were playing games, and every time I see him, I like he acts normal. I just feel like he is a laid back good guy.”
Missouri, South Carolina, Wisconsin. Kentucky join Tennessee in the mix for Combay. He will take his official visits next month and then work towards a decision.
“I just can’t rank it because I was told not to,” Combay said. “Just know that they’re doing good.”
