Tennessee lands commitment from Division III hurler Mason Estrada

MIT right-handed pitcher Mason Estrada will bump up a couple of levels to Division I baseball for the 2026 season as he announced his commitment to the Tennessee baseball program on Tuesday night.
“I’m humbled and excited to announce that I’ll be taking time away from MIT to further my baseball career at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville,” Estrade posted on social media. “Thank you to my MIT teammates and coaches for encouraging me to take this step forward and for an unforgettable season. I’m incredibly grateful to the Tennessee coaching staff for this opportunity, and to everyone who’s supported me along the way.”
The pitcher stands in at 6-foot-0 and weighs 200 pounds. He was an aerospace engineering major from Covington High School out of Georgia. MIT is Division III and doesn’t follow the same path of transfer portal window for Division I and II programs. To transfer from a Division III institution, all that is needed is to fill out the NCAA Self-Release form.
Estrada is currently a draft eligible sophomore and it will be a battle to get him to campus in the fall. He’s been heavily scouted while displaying a versatile arm that can be used in several different roles. Estrada has hit up to 97 miles per hour with the fastball and displays a swing-and-miss breaking ball. His slider is a plus-pitch.

“A special thankyou to Coach Dragg, who helped shape me mentally into the player I am today, and to Coach Russ, who’s always been in my corner – even when I wasn’t in my own,” Estrada continued in the statement. “To my family, thank you for backing me through every twist and turn. Isabelle, thank you for your love and support. And Mom – the late nights, early mornings, and long drives – I’m thankful for it all. I know Dad is smiling down on us. Lastly, thank you to the MIT staff who helped navigate this path and preserve the opportunity to return when baseball is done. Go Vols!!!”

In 2025, Estrada compiled a 6-0 record and 2.21 ERA over 10 appearances (all starts) and 40.2 innings pitched. The righty struck out 66 batters, walked 23 and allowed just seven extra-base hits (no home runs). Opponents tallied a .154 average against him as he surrendered just 22 hits and 10 earned runs in the campaign.
As a true freshman in 2024, Estrada did not appear in any games.
He becomes the second transfer commit for Tennessee baseball in the cycle, joining UNC Asheville right-handed pitcher Clay Edmondson, who announced his pledge two weeks ago as a grad transfer.
