Tennessee has been looking to add an outside wide receiver in the transfer portal and they did just that when Tulane transfer Chris Brazzell announced his decision. Playing in the best league was something that was important during the process.

“Why Tennessee?” Brazzell said on Thursday talking about his decision. “Big conference, the biggest conference in college football. I like their offense. It translates to the next level. I like Nico. He has a lot of potential. If it takes me two years, I’ll have him for both years.”

On his quick visit to Tennessee, he was blanked by the Tennessee staff. He loved the idea of playing in the SEC.

“SEC. That’s the biggest thing right here. ‘It just means more’ – I really felt that. It does just mean more,” Brazzell laughed when discussing Tennessee last week. “I like it. Obviously, Tennessee is a pass-first offense. Nico is the anchor of the offense, so that’s a big factor in that too. And he’s a freshman, so it’s not like I’m going somewhere where he’s leaving or they get a transfer quarterback. He is going to be here for numerous years.”

Brazzell visited Tennessee last week for a quick trip as he went on a whirlwind tour to Houston, Utah, Washington and Colorado as well. Even though he was only here for a short stint, he was impressed.

“I enjoyed it. Beautiful city. Beautiful state. I like the coaches. Coach [Kelsey], I feel like he can really develop me,” Brazzell told Volquest. “It’s a beautiful stadium – probably the best stadium I’ve been to in my whole life. I like it.”

Tennessee success with wide receivers, stood out when talking about the staff’s pitch to him.

“That there’s been a lot of good receivers come through here” Brazzell said of Tennessee’s pitch. “They’ve had Jalin Hyatt, who won the Biletnikoff Award last year and the best offense last year. I think that speaks for itself. Every receiver that comes through here is able to perform and go to the league. The resume speaks for itself.”

Tennessee will turn to a new quarterback next year as former 5-star Nico Iamaleava takes over. Brazzell spent a lot of his visit with the future of Tennessee’s offense and knowing he can play with a talented quarterback was important.

“I feel good. Nico [Iamaleava] – they probably have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation right now,” Brazzell exclaimed. “With him being the anchor of the ship and me being me, I feel like the sky is the limit.”

Brazzell has three years of eligibility remaining.
