Tennessee added its third right-handed pitcher from the transfer portal Thursday afternoon when Kennesaw State hurler Bo Rhudy made his pledge to the Volunteers on social media.

Rhudy now joins Clay Edmondson (UNC Asheville) and Mason Estrada (MIT) in the transfer portal class for Tennessee baseball and Tony Vitello.

Rhudy compiled a 2-0 record this past season with a 3.16 ERA across 37 innings on the mound. He struck out 44 batters and walked five in 21 appearances as a sophomore with opponents hitting .212 against him. Seven of his 13 earned runs on the season came ion two games against West Virgina and West Georgia.

The hurler was named First-Team All-Conference USA, logging a 0.51 ERA in 17.2 innings in league contests. He’s compiled a 6-1 record with a 2.97 ERA with 11 saves over 72.2 IP in two seasons.

As a freshman in 2024 Rhudy generated a 2.78 ERA and a 4-1 record over 19 appearances with two starts. He tossed 35.2 innings, struck out 35 and walked 14. Opponents tallied a .190 batting average against the First-Team All-Atlantic Sun hurler.

The rising junior stands in at 6-foot-4, weighing 225 pounds. He attended Gordan Lee High School in Chickamauga, Ga. Prior to attending Kennesaw State his first two seasons in college. The pitcher was named Chattanooga Times Free Press “Best of the Preps” in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Perfect Game ranked Rhudy as the No. 392 player in the class of 2023 and the No. 125 right-handed pitcher. The publication also ranked him as the No. 44 [layer out of Georgia and No. 15 right-handed pitcher in the state out of high school.

Rhudy primarily throws fastball-slider with the velocity sitting in the low-to-mid 90s. Tennessee reliever Tanner Franklin, was a transfer portal addition from Kennesaw State last summer. Rhudy will add some depth to a bullpen that is poised to lose Nate Snead, AJ Russell, Tanner Franklin and Brandon Arvidson this summer to the MLB Draft.

Baseball Transfer Portal

The 2025 non-graduate transfer portal opened on June 2 and will remain open until July 1. Players must have their name entered in the transfer portal by July 1 if they want to move on, but new destinations do not have to be made by that time.

The Vols have benefited greatly from the transfer portal in recent cycles, reeling in the likes of Chase Dollander (2022), Griffin Merritt (2023), Maui Ahuna (2023), Zane Denton (2023), Billy Amick (2024), Cannon Peebles (2024), AJ Causey (2024), Chris Stamos (2024), Liam Doyle (2025), Andrew Fischer (2025) and Gavin Kilen (2025).

So far, Tennessee has three portal additions in right-handed pitchers Clay Edmondson (UNC Asheville), Mason Estrada (MIT) and Bo Rhudy (Kennesaw State). Tennessee has also added junior college players such as RHP Matt Barr (SUNY Niagara) and Tyler Myatt (Walters State) and picked up catcher Trent Grindlinger as a late add to the 2025 class in recent weeks.

Tennessee has lost three players to the transfer portal so far: INF Jack Jones, INF Robinson Martin and LHP Bryson Thacker.
