Keith, who will also be the lead broadcaster for Tennessee men’s basketball, spent the last 27 seasons as the radio voice of the Tennessee Titans.
He worked in various roles with The Vol Network from 1987-98 after being hired by Ward. He was also WUTK’s sports director during his time as a student at Tennessee and later hosted one of Tennessee’s first daily sports talk radio shows from 1989-98 on WIVK and WNOX in Knoxville.
Keith was born in Knoxville and raised in Franklin. His grandfather, C.L. McPherson, was a Tennessee Football letterman, playing for General Neyland in 1932.
Mike Keith introduces new line of Vol Network weekly programming
Along with the “Voice of the Vols” title, Keith is also Tennessee’s assistant athletics director of broadcasting.
He hosts The Mike Keith Show on Thursdays, streaming on Tennessee’s YouTube channel, as well as the Volunteer Gameday pregame show on Saturdays, the Big Orange Rewind on Sunday and the Vol Network Monday Meeting on Mondays.
Keith, in an interview with Volquest in January, described coming home to Tennessee as “almost other worldly.”
“To think that only four other people have had the job,” Keith said at the time, “and I respect the four of them so much. To be in that classification now is almost other worldly.”
