How it Happened: Bats woke up as Vols pummel Albany 21-6 for series-win

It was a slow three innings to begin the contest, but Tennessee rallied in a big way to clinch the series-victory over Albany with an 21-6 win in game two Saturday afternoon.

The Vols (6-1) plated an impressive nine runs in the fourth and followed with a combined nine runs the following two frames and three more in the eighth to plate 21 runs in total off 15 hits. UAlbany (0-2) plated six runs on the day on 12 hits in the 15-run defeat.

Drew Beam (1-0) earned the win on the mound for UT after tossing five innings of two-run baseball where he surrendered six hits (one extra-base hit) with four strikeouts and no walks on 71 pitches (53 strikes). Connor Eisenman (0-1) took home the loss after allowing five runs off five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.   

The official attendance announced for the ballgame was a single-game program record of 5,127. The previous record was 5,086 against Oklahoma State back on May 28, 1995.

Tennessee and Albany will conclude the three-game series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm eastern time. But first, here’s how this one happened for Tennessee baseball on a Saturday afternoon.

Bottom 5th: Dylan Dreiling’s opposite field single brought in Dalton Bargo from third base. Vols 10-2

Bottom 5th: Kavares Tears drilled a three-run home run to centerfield. Vols 13-2

Bottom 6th: Dalton Bargo tallied a two-run home run to left field. Vols 15-2

Bottom 6th: Cannon Peebles cleared the bases with a three-run triple. Vols 18-2

Top 8th: Will Binder registered a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Vols 18-3

Bottom 8th: Reese Chapman’s bases-clearing triple brought in three runs. Vols 21-3

Top 9th: UAlbany brought in three runs in the frame. Vols 21-6
