In final game of season, Andrew Fischer ties longstanding program record
Tennessee first baseman Andrew Fischer had quite the season on Rocky Top and capped his Volunteer career by tying another program record on Sunday in the Fayetteville Super Regional loss to Arkansas.
In the bottom of the first inning, Fischer walked wo reach first base and give Tennessee its first base runner of the contest. The walk was his 63rd of the season, which tied Chase Headley’s program record set back in 2005.
The walk also extended Fischer’s on-base streak to 68 games, dating back to last season while playing for Ole Miss. Fischer reached base safely in all 65 games this season. An Incredible feat.

Fischer capped the regular season with 22 home runs to lead all of the Southeastern Conference. He finishes the season with 25 home runs, which is second-most in program history for a single season – trialing only Christian Moore’s program-record of 34 longballs just last season.
“Fish [Andrew Fischer] will certainly gain attention or create a conversation right there and it’s because he’s so comfortable in his own skin – like CMO [Christian Moore] was,” Vitello said of what he will remember about this team. “Just a really fun kid to be around. I mean, if you don’t like him, again, it’s because you’re not wearing the same uniform as him.”
