Tennessee’s Super Regional history under Tony Vitello

The Vols are in the Super Regional round for a fifth straight year, the longest such streak in college baseball, after fighting off elimination in the Knoxville Regional at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Tennessee was pushed to a decisive Game 7 in the double-elimination regional format after losing 7-6 to Wake on Sunday, but the Vols bounced back with a 10-5 win Monday night to advance to the Super Regional round for a fifth straight year, the longest streak in college baseball.

Tony Vitello has led Tennessee to a College World Series appearance each of the last two seasons and three times over the last four years.

Last season Evansville took Tennessee to three games in the Knoxville Super Regional before the Vols punched their ticket to Omaha and the College World Series with a 12-1 win in Game 3. They would go on to win the program’s first national championship, beating Texas A&M in three games.

Tennessee won in three games over Southern Miss in the Hattiesburg Super Regional in 2023, after going on the road to win the Clemson Regional. The 57-win Vols in 2023, the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, were upset by Notre Dame in three games in the Knoxville Super Regional.

Tennessee beat LSU in two games at home in the 2022 Knoxville Super Regional, advancing to Omaha for the first time since 2005.
