GAINESVILLE, Fla. — There will be no baseball played Thursday night between Tennessee and Florida in The Swamp as game one of the three-game series has been postponed due to rain.

A doubleheader will now be played on Friday with game one beginning at 3 pm eastern time. The nightcap of the twin-billing will take place 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Friday will be the first double header of the season for the Big Orange as the 2023 squad played three.

Each Southeastern Conference series has a three-day window to get three games played. Since this is a Thursday-Saturday weekend, the series would not be allowed to be completed on Sunday. Saturday will be two nine inning ballgames while a double header on getaway day would consist of two seven inning affairs.

The No. 3 Vols (37-8, 15-6 SEC) dropped a midweek decision to Lipscomb on Tuesday but have won six-straight series in conference play, having swept Missouri the last time out. The Gators (23-21, 9-12 SEC) started hot in league play with series wins over Texas A&M, LSU and Mississippi State but have cooled since after being swept at Missouri and have followed with series losses to South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Arkansas. But Florida played the Razorbacks well on the road this past weekend, dropping two games by a combined two runs.

Graduate lefty Chris Stamos (3-0, 2.89 ERA) was set to make his fourth-straight open on Thursday to begin another series while fellow lefty Pierce Coppola (0-2, 10.30 ERA) was slated to counter for the Gators. Game 2 was position to be Drew Beam for Tennessee while Florida listed TBA. The finale is Zander Sechrist against Jac Caglianone in the battle of the southpaws.

Stary up-to-date all weekend long for Tennessee baseball at Florida right here on Volquest.
