How it Happened: Bulldogs bite Vols 16-2 in series-opener

Georgia exploded for a six-run second inning and never looked back, run-ruling Tennessee by a final score of 16-2 in game one of the three-game series Friday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Vols (22-5, 3-4 SEC) fell one game below .500 in Southeastern Conference play with the loss – only the second loss at home this season. It’s also the first time Tennessee has been run-ruled in a ballgame since the mercy rule became official in 2023. The Bulldogs (22-4, 4-3 SEC) were paced by leadoff man Corey Collins who belted a pair of three-run home runs in the victory.
AJ Causey (5-1) is the losing pitcher on the night for Tennessee after allowing eight runs (seven earned) off seven hits in just 2.2 innings pitched. It’s Causey’s first loss of his Tennessee career. Starter Charlie Goldstein (4-0) earned the victory after allowing two runs (none earned) off eight hits in five innings of work.
Tennessee and Georgia will return for game two of the series Saturday evening at 5 pm eastern, but first, here’s how it all went down for the Vols in game one.
