How To Watch: Tennessee Baseball in Sunday's Knoxville Regional Final

Tennessee Baseball will face Wake Forest in the Knoxville Regional final Sunday at 6:06 p.m. Eastern Time at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The game will live streamed on ESPN+.

Wake Forest (38-21) won 10-3 against Cincinnati (33-26) in Sunday’s early game.

Tennessee (45-16) beat No. 4 Miami (Ohio) 9-2 in the opener Friday and beat No. 3 Cincinnati 10-6 Saturday night to advance to the regional final in the four-team, double-elimination format. 

The Vols need one win to advance to the Super Regional round and would have to lose Sunday and again on Monday to be eliminated.

Tennessee’s win over Cincinnati on Saturday was its 14th straight regional win and 18th straight at home. The Vols haven’t lost in regional play since June 2, 2019, when their season ended in a 5-2 loss to North Carolina in the Chapel Hill Regional in Year 1 under Tony Vitello

Last season the Vols swept through Northern Kentucky, Indiana and Southern Miss. In 2023 they won the Clemson Regional after beating Charlotte, Clemson and then Charlotte again.

In 2022 Tennessee beat Alabama State 10-0, Campbell 12-7 and Georgia Tech 9-6 to advance out of the regional round, before being upset by Notre Dame in the Knoxville Super Regional. 

In 2021 the Vols beat Wright State 9-8 on Drew Gilbert’s walk-off grand slam, then swept Liberty 9-3 and 3-1 to advance to the Super Regional, where Tennessee would also sweep LSU to advance to the College World Series. 

Tennessee’s path to the Knoxville Region final

Tennessee jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Cincinnati in the first inning Saturday and turned a two-run game in to a 8-2 lead after scoring four runs in the sixth. 

Marcus Phillips got the win after giving up three runs on four hits over 6.0 innings pitched. AJ Russell went 2.2 innings out of the bullpen, giving up three runs on three hits. Phillips and Russell combined to strike out 14.

Tennessee took control against Miami (Ohio) on Friday with two runs in the bottom of the third inning, then broke the game open with a five-run fourth. Liam Doyle (10-3) got the win after giving up one earned run on four hits. He had 11 strikeouts against three walks while facing 26 batters. 

Gavin Kilen scored on a bases-loaded walk in the third before Reese Chapman added a sacrifice fly to score Andrew Fischer. Fischer, Hunter Ensley and Dalton Bargo had RBI singles in the fourth and Chapman scored Hensley on a fielder’s choice.
