Tennessee is hosting a regional for the fourth time over the last five years. The Vols have advanced to the super regional round each of the last five seasons, including a road win in the Clemson Regional in 2023.

Last season the Vols started their run to the program’s first national championship by sweeping through Northern Kentucky, Indiana and Southern Miss in the Knoxville Regional.

Tennessee then beat Evansville in three games in the Knoxville Super Regional to advance to the College World Series for the second straight time and third time in four years.

In Omaha the Vols rallied with four runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with a 12-11 win in a stunner against Florida State. From there Tennessee beat North Carolina and then eliminated FSU with another win against the Seminoles.

Tennessee lost to Texas A&M in the first game in the championship series, but answered with a 4-1 win in Game 2 and a 6-5 win in the decisive Game 3 to hoist the national championship trophy.

Tennessee Baseball’s regional history under Tony Vitello

Tennessee is 9-0 in Knoxville Regional games during the Tony Vitello era.

In 2022 Tennessee beat Alabama State 10-0, Campbell 12-7 and Georgia Tech 9-6 to advance out of the regional round, before being upset by Notre Dame in the Knoxville Super Regional.

In 2021 the Vols beat Wright State 9-8 on Drew Gilbert’s walk-off grand slam, then swept Liberty 9-3 and 3-1 to advance to the Super Regional, where Tennessee would also sweep LSU to advance to the College World Series.
