Colin Coyne, a former Tennessee Basketball walk-on forward and student assistant coach, is now a graduate assistant with the Vols. He graduated from Tennessee in 2023 with a degree in business analytics and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in business administration.

Coyne, from Fredericksburg, Va., was on roster at Tennessee for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. He rejoined the program in August 2024 as a student assistant coach before becoming a graduate assistant this month.

Tennessee went 52-20 during Coyne’s two seasons on roster and finished 30-8 last season. He went to a Sweet 16 and an Elite Eight as a player, before helping the Vols return to the Elite Eight last season.

Tennessee hired Amorrow Morgan to replace Rod Clark

Rick Barnes will have two new faces on his coaching staff for the 2025-26 season.

Tennessee on May 2 announced the hiring of Amorrow Morgan, the Florida State assistant coach who spent the previous two seasons at Cal. Morgan had taken a job at FSU in early April, before being hired away by the Vols to replace Rod Clark, who on April 30 left for a spot on Darian DeVries’ staff at Indiana.

Morgan, a 2012 graduate of Idaho State and a Memphis native, also coached at Loyola-Chicago, South Alabama, Nicholls State, Henderson State, the University of Illinois Springfield and Our Lady of the Lake University.

“He is a young, energetic coach,” Barnes said, “with a sharp basketball mind who will make an impact with our program from day one. I know he will do all he can to help our players excel and that he will mesh with the strong culture we have in place.”

Vols add coaching veteran in assistant coach Steve McClain

On May 13 the Vols announced the hire of assistant coach Steve McClain, a 43-year coaching veteran who spent the last three seasons at Texas under former Longhorns head coach Rodney Terry.

McClain, 62, went 157-115 in his eight seasons as head coach at Wyoming. He also served as head coach at Hutchinson Community College and Illinois-Chicago and worked as an assistant at TCU, Colorado, Indiana and Georgia in a carer that dates back to 1982.

“Steve is a veteran coach who has accomplished so much over four-plus decades,” Barnes said. “It was an easy decision to seize the chance to hire him here at Tennessee and we’re happy to have him.

“His experience, coaching acumen and care for his players will be invaluable. I am confident Steve will give his all for Tennessee on a daily basis and that our program will benefit from his passion.”
