Tennessee Basketball is top five for four-star small forward Gage Mayfield

Tennessee Basketball is in the top five for four-star small forward and top-100 prospect Gage Mayfield, along with Vanderbilt, Florida State, Michigan and Oklahoma. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound Mayfield is ranked No. 72 overall in the class of 2026 and is the No. 26 small forward in the country.
“Just love the program,” Mayfield said of the Vols in an interview with Rivals’ Joe Tipton, “and how they treat and interact with the players. Really it’s just a great overall program around and they also have a really good support system.”
Mayfield took an official visit to Tennessee in June, has an official visits scheduled at Florida State (August 1), Vanderbilt (September 6), Oklahoma (September 13) and Michigan (September 20).
‘I feel very comfortable with (Tennessee)’
“(Tennessee has) been very interactive, so far,” Mayfield told Rivals national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw. “They call me a lot throughout the days to check up on me and make sure I’m doing good. I feel very comfortable with them and I think that I’m going to like it a lot up there.”
“When I go on my visits,” Mayfield added. “I’m definitely going to look around at the environment. See how the players interact, and how the coaches interact with the players. See what the outside noise is about and make sure the environment is cool.”
Mayfield is out of Hale County High School in Moundville, Ala., and is the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Alabama. Tennessee signed the top-ranked Alabama player in the 2025 class in four-star center Dewayne Brown.

“I want to be an early signee,” Mayfield told Shaw, “so I want to be good and signed by November.”
Tennessee’s 2025 class ranked No. 14 nationally
Tennessee signed five prep prospects in 2025, headlined by five-star small forward Nate Ament, the No. 2 overall player in the class. The 6-foot-9 Ament is a consensus five-star prospect, ranked no lower than No. 4 in any of the ranking systems.
Amari Evans, the 6-foot-5, 204-pound shooting guard, is ranked No. 69 overall in the Rivals Industry Rating. Brown, the 6-foot-9, 235-pound big man out of Hoover, Ala., was the first commitment in the class and is ranked No. 96 overall.
The Vols in the spring added three-star point guard Troy Henderson and three-star shooting guard Clarence Massamba, a French prospect from AS Monaco.
Tennessee’s 2025 class moved up to No. 14 nationally in the class rankings after adding Ament. The Vols finished at No. 4 in the SEC and have an average class score of 92.29.
