Names to watch for Tennessee Basketball in the NCAA Transfer Portal

Names to know for Tennessee basketball in the NCAA Transfer Portal, on the heels of the Vols hosting Hofstra wing Darlinstone Dubar and Belmont forward Cade Tyson on official visits over the weekend and head of a Tuesday visits scheduled with Charlotte forward Igor Milicic:

The Vols currently have four roster spots to fill after redshirt freshmen Freddie Dilione and DJ Jefferson and forward Jonas Aidoo and Tobe Awaka entered the portal.

NCAA Transfer Portal

Cade Tyson (Belmont): The 6-foot-7, 205-pound wing from Monroe, N.C., averaged 16.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 0.9 steals in 31.6 minutes per game at Belmont this season, starting all 31 games. He shot 49.3% from the field and 46.5% on 172 attempts from the 3-point line. As a freshman last season he averaged 13.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.9 assists in 29.1 minutes per game, starting 28 times in 30 games.

Igor Milicic Jr. (Charlotte): The 6-foot-10, 225-pound junior averaged 12.8 points and 8.5 rebounds this season with the 49ers, shooting 48.7% from the field and 37.6% from the 3-point line. Milicic started his career at Virginia before transferring to Charlotte after the 2021-22 season. He entered the transfer portal on March 25. 

Roddy Gayle Jr. (Ohio State): The 6-foot-4, 205-pound sophomore guard averaged 13.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists this season, shooting 44.9% from the field Gayle, who entered the portal on April 3, is a former four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle. He was No. 62 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking and was the No. 8 shooting guard in the country. He averaged 30.9 minutes per game for the Buckeyes this season, starting 35 of 36 games. He shot 51.1% on 2-point field goals, but shot just 28.4% from the 3-point line.

Jared Coleman-Jones (MTSU): The 6-foot-10, 240-pound junior forward averaged 11.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 33 games this season, shooting 45.2% from the field. He started his career at Northwestern in 2019-20 before transferring to MTSU.

Aaron Scott (North Texas): The 6-foot-7, 200-pound junior wing averaged 11.0 points in 30.2 minutes per game. He also averaged 5.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. Scott shot 41.9% from the field and 37.0% from the 3-point line. Shot a career-high 40.8% from the 3-point line during the 2022-23 season. 

Saint Thomas (North Colorado): The 6-foot-7, 200-pound junior averaged 19.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists  in 34.8 minutes per game. Spent the previous two seasons at Loyola Chicago, where he averaged 3.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 18.3 minutes per game two years ago, starting five times in 14 games played. Averaged 6.3 minutes per game as a freshman at Loyola in 2021-22. Thomas this season shot 47.2% from the field and 33.0% from the 3-point line. 

Prep Possibilities

Trent Perry:The four-star point guard out of Los Angeles de-committed from USC after head coach Andy Enfield left to take over at SMU. Perry, listed at 6-foot-4, 175 pounds out of LA’s Harvard Westlake High School, is ranked No. 41 overall in the 2024 class. He’s the No. 7 point guard in the country and the No. 5 overall player in the state of California. 

Gabriel Mabor: The 6-foot-11, 215-pound center is a prep prospect out of Gaston Christian School in Gastonia, North Carolina. The three-star prospect in ranked No. 22 among center in the 2024 recruiting class. He’s the No. 11 overall player in the state of North Carolina.
