Craven Wings Two-Minute Drill: Tennessee begins prep for Florida
It’s week three of the college football season and Josh Heupel and the Vols now turn their attention to the Florida Gators. UT enters the showdown with a flawless 3-0 record – highlighted by a win at Pittsburgh in week two. The Gators sit at 2-1 with its lone loss coming from SEC foe Kentucky.
Brent Hubbs and Austin Price breakdown all the action from Rocky Top on a Monday morning as Heupel and players met with the media. Quarterback Hendon Hooker, tight end Jacob Warren and offensive lineman Jerome Carvin helped tie a bow on the Akron victory while also looking ahead to the challenges Florida will present.
On Sunday night’s Rocky Top Rewind, former Vols quarterback Casey Clausen detailed his memories of playing against the Gators. The ‘Iceman’ also detailed what he likes from Hooker and the Volunteer offense this year and how it could translate to the Gators.
Tennessee is fresh off a 63-6 win over Akron where the Vols racked up racked up 676 total yards, fifth-most in a single game in program history. According to Tennessee Stats & Info, the Vols have eclipsed 600 yards of total offense in a game 17 times in program history. Three of those incidences have come during the Josh Heupel era.

Hooker got off to a slow start passing, going just 3-for-7 and 32 yards. The senior quickly rebounded to finish 14-of-18 for 298 yards and two touchdowns. During the game, Hooker tied Heath Shuler, Jonathan Crompton and Andy Kelly for seventh all-time in program history with 36 passing touchdowns. The signal-caller has now thrown a touchdown pass in 15-conseuctive games, which is three shy of Shuler’s record of 18.
Saturday’s game will be in front of a sold out crowd at Neyland Stadium, the host site of ESPN’s College GameDay show. It’ll be Checker Neyland inside the friendly confines and the game will be televised on CBS with a 3:30 pm eastern time kick.
