Joey Aguilar completed 23 of 31 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns in the first half Saturday afternoon, leading No. 22 Tennessee to a 72-17 win over East Tennessee State in his first game at Neyland Stadium.

Here’s everything Tennessee Football’s quarterback said after the win:

Boo Carter’s punt returns to give Tennessee good field position in the first half

“Yeah, field position, that changes the game. And Boo being able to get us in position to get us in the end zone in a couple plays, automatic points. When you’re in that close, you got three or you got seven. So that helps a lot.”

His family in the stands

“I had about 12,13 family members from California come out, eight family members from out this way that came out, so we had a deep little section in the stands. It’s awesome to have them be able to come out here, especially my grandma. Travel, especially from California, is hard for her, so being able to go out there and just play football, and knowing that it makes them happy, representing Tennessee and them brings a lot of joy and just makes me super grateful to be out there.”

His grandmother being able to see his first game at Neyland Stadium

“It’s awesome. I mean, I wish I could show you guys videos that my siblings send me of her at home. She’s screaming at the TV at penalties and things like that. She’s a bundle of joy and I’m super grateful to have her as my supporter and super glad for her to experience it in person.”

The 53-yard touchdown pass to Mike Matthews

“Yeah, I was throwing it to Mike as I was rolling. There was a lot of green grass on the left side of the field. (Travis Smith Jr.) was clearing out, so I told Mike to get in that area, had a flip. Turned around the defender that was in my face pretty quick, so I threw the ball up. Mike came down with it and made a great play.”

His first home game at Neyland Stadium

“It’s awesome. I mean, it’s one of the greatest stadiums in the sport, so to go out there and take it all in. When we ran out there and seeing how packed it was, it was awesome.”

How Tennessee has progressed through two weeks

“There’s a lot of good, but there’s some stuff we can clean up. We’re never perfect, but we’re striving to be perfection. Even though we can’t get there, we can get pretty close. So super excited.”

Tennessee’s offensive line not allowing a sack for a second straight week to start the season

“They’re doing great. It starts and ends with them. You can’t do anything without the O-line. I give all the credit to them. They dominated the run game, dominated the pass game. We can’t do anything without the O-line.”
