The wait is almost over. No. 11 Tennessee renews its rivalry with Florida on Saturday night at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Eastern Time and ESPN will carry the game’s broadcast.

The Vols (2-0), after wins over Virginia and Austin Peay to start the season, go to Florida (1-1) as a 6.5-point favorite. It’s only the second time in the previous 30 years that Tennessee has been favored at The Swamp, according to BetOnline, with the only other time being a one-point spread in 2015.

The Gators opened the season with a 24-11 loss at then-No. 14 Utah, the program’s fourth straight loss dating back to the end of last season. Florida opened its home schedule last week with a 49-3 win over McNeese.

Not since 2003 has Tennessee won in Gainesville. The Vols have won just three times at Florida since 1971 — 20-13 in 1971, 34-32 in 2001 and 24-10 in 2003.

Updating the injury list for the Vols

Tennessee starting center Cooper Mays, who has been out since undergoing surgery on August 9, will travel to Gainesville with the Vols and, according to what head coach Josh Heupel said on Thursday, it appears he’ll make his return against the Gators.

“Yeah, he will be going with us. He’s done really good all week long,” Heupel said during his final press conference of the week. “I anticipate him being ready to play,” the coach said of his senior center. “He’s smart, competitive and communicates at a really high level. His experience is beneficial for us.”

Heupel ruled Mays out for the Austin Peay game last Wednesday and said the Vols were hoping to get him 100 percent healthy before the game at Florida. On Monday he started the week by saying he anticipated Mays taking additional steps before the game in Gainesville.

“He was with us last week,” Heupel said. “Warmed up with us. We made a decision pretty early in the week that he probably would not play in that football game. And, anticipate him having a good week of practice here, getting ready.”
