Tennessee Football stayed put at No. 15 in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the Coaches Poll on Sunday afternoon, following the 44-41 overtime loss to Georgia Saturday at Neyland Stadium.

The Vols (2-1, 0-1 SEC) moved up two spots from No. 17 to No. 15 in the Coaches Poll last week. They jumped up seven spots in the AP Top 25 last Sunday, going from No. 22 to No. 15.

Georgia (3-0, 1-0) was ranked No. 3 in the Coaches Poll last week.

Up next: Tennessee vs. UAB

Tennessee hosts UAB on Saturday in a 12:45 p.m. Eastern Time start on SEC Network.

UAB beat Akron 31-28 Saturday night in Birmingham, bouncing back for the 38-24 loss at Navy last week. The Blazers opened the season with a 52-42 home win over Alabama State on August 28.

Tennessee on Saturday jumped out to a 21-7 lead against Georgia, but the Bulldogs answered with 20 straight points during the second and third quarters to build a 27-21 lead.

The Vols led 38-30 midway through the fourth quarter, after a strip-sack fumble recovery was turned into a 48-yard Max Gilbert field goal.

Georgia tied the game on a touchdown and two-point conversion with 2:30 left and Tennessee drove down to the 25-yard line in the final minute, but Gilbert missed a 43-yard field goal with seven seconds left, forcing overtime.

Tennessee started OT with a 42-yard Gilbert field goal, before Georgia ran for 21 yards on first down and scored the game-wining touchdown two plays later.

In Saturday’s loss Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar completed 24 of 36 passes for 371 yards, with four touchdowns and two interceptions.

Chris Brazzell II caught six passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns and the Vols rushed 34 times for 125 yards and a touchdown as a team, led by Star Thomas carrying nine times for 60 yards, with a long of 27.

Josh Heupel: ‘We need to drink all that in and taste all of it’

Tennessee goes to Mississippi State on September 27, in its first true road game of the season, then is off on October 4. Arkansas comes to Neyland Stadium on October 11, before back-to-back road games at Alabama on October 18 and at Kentucky on October 25.

“End of the day,” Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said after the loss to Georgia, “coaches and players got to be a little bit better to win that football game. And tonight, it’s going to hurt. And we need to drink all that in and taste all of it.

“Because if we’re going to move forward and be the team that we’re capable of, this feeling tonight’s got to be a part of what continues to propel us and the urgency and the focus and everything that we do.”
