Tennessee football’s homecoming game next season will be November 9 against Mississippi State. The Vols announced the homecoming designation on social media on Wednesday afternoon

Mississippi State won five games last season, before hiring Jeff Lebby away from Oklahoma. Tennessee is 29-16-1 in the all-time series against Mississippi State, dating back to 1907.

The Vols have won 10 of the last 12, including a 20-10 win at Neyland Stadium in 2019, the most recent matchup. Mississippi State beat the Vols 41-31 in Starkville in October 2012.

The Mississippi State game is one of three home games at Neyland Stadium in the final month of the schedule. The Vols host Kentucky on November 2, Mississippi State on November 9 and UTEP on November 23. 

They go to Georgia on November 16 and end the regular-season schedule at Vanderbilt on November 30. 

Season Opener: August 31 vs. Chattanooga

The season starts on August 31 against Chattanooga at Neyland Stadium, followed by a neutral-site game against North Carolina State at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte in the Duke’s Mayo Classic on September 7.

Tennessee hosts Kent State on September 14 before going to Oklahoma on September 21 to start SEC play, as the Sooners make their debut in the league alongside Texas. 

After a bye week on September 28, the Vols are back on the road at Arkansas on October 5. Next is back-to-back home games against Florida and Alabama, with the Gators coming to Knoxville on October 12 and the Crimson Tide on October 19.

A closer look at win totals for Tennessee, Vols’ opponents

Tennessee’s win total for next season is set at 9.5, according numbers released recently by FanDuel. Georgia has the highest total of any Tennessee opponent, at 10.5, ahead of Alabama at 9.5.

North Carolina State’s is 8.5, Oklahoma’s is 7.5 and Arkansas, Kentucky and Florida are all set at 5.5. Mississippi State is 4.5 and Vanderbilt is 2.5.

Georgia finished at No. 2 in ESPN’s FPI, No. 3 in the Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the AP Top 25 last season. Alabama finished at No. 5 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll and were No. 6 in ESPN’s FPI after a 12-2 season.

Oklahoma finished at No. 15 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll after going 10-3 this season. North Carolina State finished at No. 21 in both the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll after going 9-4.
