Vols got Jaxson Moi, David Sanders back from injury at Miss. State
Daevin Hobbs was not listed on Wednesday’s injury report. The junior defensive lineman been sidelined since suffering a foot injury late in fall camp. Head coach Josh Heupel addressed the return of Hobbs during his appearance on The Mike Keith Show on Thursday.
“I think (it’s) just his overall athleticism,” Heupel said. “Ability to play vertical, jump the football. The twitch that he has on the inside is something that we are excited about getting back in our front. It also gives us the opportunity to rotate more guys and stay fresher throughout the course of the game.”
Both Arkansas and Tennessee are coming off bye weeks. The Vols won 41-34 in overtime at Mississippi State before the open date, removing freshman offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. and senior defensive lineman Jaxson Moi off the injury report. Moi played 44 snaps in his return at Mississippi State and Sanders played 11 off the bench.
Moi was lost with an arm injury in the first half against Syracuse. Sanders had been out since suffering an upper-body injury in practice on August 27, three days before the 45-26 win over Syracuse in Atlanta to open the season.
“David had a great offseason, great training camp,” Heupel said on Thursday. “Really grew throughout the course of the summer, post spring ball and during the early part of the season here. Getting him back healthy, he was gone for four and a half, five weeks, where he didn’t have much contact.
“Just getting back into the flow of those things will allow him to go play his best football. He’s had a really good week of practice.”
What Josh Heupel said this week about Jermod McCoy
The timetable for return for cornerback Jermod McCoy remains unclear. He suffered a torn ACL during offseason training in January.

“Jermod continues to do a great job in his rehab with our medical staff, our strength staff,” Heupel said on Monday. “Somebody told me there was a report out there of a certain ball game that he’s focused in on as far as returning.
“I think that’s unfair. Whoever put that out there, I don’t think truly understands Jermod and the situation. He’s done a really good job. He’s got more to go.”
Tennessee corner Rickey Gibson III has also been out since suffering an upper-body injury in the first half against Syracuse, with Colorado transfer Colton Hood and freshman Ty Redmond replacing Gibson and McCoy at corner.
McCoy returned to the practice field to do individual work during fall camp, but as of Monday had yet to take part in team activities in practice.
“I think it’s all about him being prepared to go play,” Heupel said. “There’s a lot of things that go into that. You look at the position he plays, all the reactionary work that you have to have in so you’re always balancing his ability to be prepared and short-term, long-term health as well.”
