Where Tennessee Football is ranked after 56-24 win over UAB

Tennessee Football again this week stayed at No. 15 in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the Coaches Poll on Sunday afternoon, following the 56-24 win over UAB Saturday afternoon at Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee (3-1) now goes to Mississippi State (4-0) for its first true road game of the season, with Saturday’s kickoff scheduled for 4:15 p.m. Eastern Time on SEC Network at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville. 

Mississippi State on Saturday beat Northern Illinois 38-10 at home.

The Vols stayed at No. 15 in both polls last week after the 44-41 overtime loss to Georgia in Knoxville. 

Tennessee started the season with a 45-26 win over Syracuse in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Vols then beat East Tennessee State 72-17 a week later before the home loss to Georgia. 

Joey Aguilar vs. UAB: 15-22, 218 yards 3 TDs, 1 INT

On Saturday Tennessee got 218 yards passing and three touchdowns from quarterback Joey Aguilar, giving him 200 or more yards in each of his 28 career starts, the longest active streak in Football Bowl Subdivision. Aguilar has also thrown for multiple touchdowns in 22 of his 28 starts. 

Tennessee rushed 43 times for 235 yards as a team and scored four rushing touchdowns. 

DeSean Bishop had nine carries for 59 yards and two touchdown, Peyton Lewis had 11 carries for 81 yards and a score and Star Thomas had nine carries for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Chris Brazzell II caught five passes for 62 yards and a touchdown, giving him six over his last three games, and Mike Matthews had three catches for 53 yards and a score.

Tennessee gave up a 30-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and a 61-yarder in the third, after a Boo Carter fumbled punt return helped the Blazer set up for a 45-yard field goal. 

UAB quarterback Jalen Kitna was 38-for-51 for 364 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. The Blazers ran 19 times for just 23 yards. 

What’s left on the Tennessee Football schedule

Tennessee has a bye week after the trip to Mississippi State. The Vols start the October schedule at home against Arkansas on October 11, then go back on the road for two straight at Alabama (October 18) and at Kentucky (October 25).

Three of the four games in November are at home.

The schedule closes with home games against Oklahoma (November 1) and New Mexico State (November 15) sandwiched around the second bye week (November 8). The Vols go to Florida (November 22) and end the regular season at home against Vanderbilt (November 29).
