A closer look at Tennessee Football's summer enrollees

Summer workouts are underway for Tennessee Football, which welcomed its remaining players from the 2024 signing class on campus this week. The first day of the full summer session was on Thursday and fall training camp begins July 31, one month before the season opener against Chattanooga on August 31 at Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee’s 2024 class finished at No. 13 overall in the national rankings. The group was eighth in the SEC and had a class score of 91.52, headlined by five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews, five-star edge rusher Jordan Ross and 10 other four-star prospects. 

The early enrollees who arrived in January included Matthews, four-star wide receiver Braylon Staley, four-star athlete Boo Carter, four-star running back Peyton Lewis, four-star corner Kaleb Beasley, four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger, four-star offensive lineman William Satterwhite, four-star offensive lineman Max Anderson, four-star edge rusher Kellen Lindstrom, four-star linebacker Edwin Spillman, three-star safety Marcus Gore, three-star safety Edrees Farooq, three-star offensive tackle Gage Ginther and three-star offensive tackle Jesse Perry.

Here’s a closer look at the summer enrollees who arrived this week:

Jordan Ross

Jordan Ross was a five-star edge rusher prospect in both the On3 Industry Ranking and the On3 ratings. The 6-foot-5, 233 pounds was ranked as the No. 7 overall player in the 2024 class in the On3 ratings. He was the No. 1 edge and the No. 2 player in the state of Alabama, out of Vestavia Hills High School in Birmingham.

Bennett Warren

Offensvie lineman Bennett Warren, listed at 6-foot-7, 342 pounds, was a four-star prospect ranked No. 135 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the No. 9 offensive tackle in the 2024 class and was the No. 21 overall player in the state of Texas, out of Fort Bend Academy in Sugar Land, Texas. 

Jordan Burns

Jordan Burns was a three-star prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, finishing his prep career ranked No. 424 overall. He was the No. 38 linebacker in the class and the No. 48 overall prospect in the state of Georgia, out of Pace Academy in Atlanta.

Jeremias Heard

Jeremias Heard was a four-star prospect the On3 ratings, ranked as the No. 26 defensive lineman in the class and the No. 81 overall prospect in the state of Georgia, out of Model High School in Rome, Ga. He’s listed on Tennessee’s website 6-foot-8, 308 pounds.

Cole Harrison

Tennessee went to California to get tight end Cole Harrison, the 6-foot-5, 225-pound prospect out of Junipero High School in San Mateo, Calif. He was a three-star prospect ranked by On3 as the No. 39 tight end in the class and the No. 73 overall prospect in the state of California.

Colin Brazzell

Three-star defensive back Colin Brazzell, the brother of Tennessee transfer wide receiver Chris Brazzell, committed to the Vols in January. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Brazzell was a three-star prospect out of Midland Legacy High School in Midland, Texas.

Carson Gentle

In-state defensive lineman Carson Gentle won three state championships at McCallie School in Chattanooga before signing with Tennessee as a three-star prospect. The 6-foot-3, 242-pound Gentle was ranked as the No. 57 overall defensive lineman in the 2024 class and the No. 28 overall prospect in the state of Tennessee. 

Jamal Wallace

Defensive lineman Jamal Wallace signed with Tennessee out of California’s Sierra College. The 6-foot-3, 304-pounder was a three-star JUCO prospect and ranked as the No. 4 JUCO player in the state of California in the On3 ratings.

In-State Prospects

Tennessee also added six in-state prospects, including preferred walk-ons in longsnapper Marshall Box (Humboldt), defensive back Jackson Matthews (Nashville), wide receiver Braylon Harmon (Knoxville), linebacker Ryan Scott (Knoxville), linebacker Grier Short (Nashville) and ETSU transfer receiver Tommy Winton III. Winton, a Knoxville native, caught 23 passes for 349 yards in 10 games at ETSU last season.
