Tennessee Football will wear its traditional home uniform — white helmets, orange jerseys and white pants — against Georgia in the ‘Checker Neyland’ SEC opener at Neyland Stadium Saturday afternoon. Kickoff between the 15th-ranked Vols (2-0) and No. 6 Bulldogs (2-0) is scheduled for 3:30 Eastern Time on ABC.

The Vols announced their uniform combination on social media on Thursday. Tennessee also wore its traditional home uniform in the 72-17 win over East Tennessee State and in the 45-26 win over Syracuse in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on August 30.

‘Checker Neyland’ set for Saturday vs. Georgia

Tennessee announced game designations for the 2025 season in May, including the annual ‘Checker Neyland’ game taking place against Georgia. Fans can find their designated color — set by section, row and seat number — by visiting checkertn.com.

ESPN also announced on Saturday night that College GameDay will be headed to Knoxville to broadcast live Saturday morning ahead of the Tennessee-Georgia showdown. The show will originate from the lawn in front of Ayres Hall on The Hill.

College GameDay has been to Knoxville two other times during the Josh Heupel era, for the wins over Florida and Georgia during the 2022 season.

Vols in final season of Nike apparel contract

Tennessee is in its final season in Nike uniforms under its current apparel contract. The Vols on July 1 will begin a 10-year deal with Adidas.

The Vols have two alternate uniforms, with the Smokey Grey and Dark Mode sets. The Dark Mode look was introduced in 2021, the first season under head coach Josh Heupel, and features all-black jerseys and pants, with orange numbers and pants stripes.

A white helmet trimmed in black was worn in 2021 — the orange helmet stripe and Power T was trimmed in black, to go with a black facemask — before an all-black helmet was added in 2022.

The Vols wore the Dark Mode uniform in wins over South Carolina in 2021 and 2023 and wins over Kentucky in 2022 and 2024.

Vols wearing new Smokey Grey alternate vs. New Mexico State

Tennessee will wear its 2025 Smokey Grey alternate uniform for homecoming against New Mexico State on November 15. It will also be Salute to Service weekend, tying in with the uniform set which was designed in collaboration with the Tennessee Military Department, the 134th Air Refueling Wing in East Tennessee and the Tennessee National Guard.

The uniform incudes stencil numbers, military-inspired patches and a Davy Stripe on the helmet, shoulders and pants, serving as “a modern take on Crockett’s famous, fringed uniform.”

This season’s Smokey Grey uniform is the fourth in the Smokey Grey Series, which dates back to the 2022 season and has included a different version of the uniform each season.
