How it Happened: Tennessee smacks Gonzaga 8-2 behind Chase Dollander & late offense

Tennessee utilized a six-run sixth inning and the dominant arm of Chase Dollander to blow past Gonzaga 8-2 Friday night in game one of the three-game weekend series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Christian Moore and Zane Denton went yard during the win and the Vols push their win-streak to nine games.

The righty was fantastic on the night where he picked up his second victory of the year – tossing six innings of scoreless baseball with 11 strikeouts, no walks and six hits. It was the second-straight outing Dollander surpassed the 10-strikeout total tally. Tennessee pounded out eight runs on nine hits while Gonzaga scored two runs off nine hits.

Top 1st:  Connor Coballes singled up the middle. Enzo Apodaca singled to right field to put runners on the corners. Cade McGee and Brian Kalmer struck out swinging. Tommy Eisenstat grounded out to the second baseman to strand two-on and no outs.

Hunter Ensley walked. Kyle Booker struck out. Charlie Taylor walked to load the bases. Jared Dickey is hit by a pitch – Ahuna scored. Christian Moore walked and Hunter Ensley scored. Blake Burke singled in a pair and then Moore scored on the advance throw to second base. Zane Denton walked. Griffin Merritt walked. Maui Ahuna ground out to the second baseman.

Bottom 7th: Kyle Booker laces a one double down the left field line and comes around to score on a double from Charlie Taylor.

Top 9th: Brian Kalmer homered and Savier Pinales doubled in another run.
